CAST Announces Launch of World New Energy Vehicle Congress (WNEVC 2019)

BEIJING, April 12, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- The press conference for the World New Energy Vehicle Congress (WNEVC 2019) was held by the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) in Beijing, during which the Organizing Committee briefed the WNEVC preparation and progress. WNEVC is organized by the China Society of Automotive Engineers (China SAE).

Press Conference for WNEVC 2019 was held on 9-April, 2019 in Beijing, China

Approved by the State Council of the People's Republic of China, WNEVC 2019 will take place from July 1 to 3 in Boao, Hainan Province. The three-day event is expected to bring over 1,200 delegates from around the world, including domestic and foreign government officials, industry experts and scholars, and global business leaders.

The press conference for the World New Energy Vehicle Congress 2019 (WNEVC) was held by CAST in the China Hall of Science and Technology

Mr. Guo Zhe, Director of the Research and Publicity Department of CAST, Mr. Zhang Jinhua, Executive Vice Chairman and Secretary General of SAE-China, and Secretary General of the Organizing Committee of WNEVC, and Mr. Lin Min, Deputy Director General of Hainan Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology attended the press conference.

Approved by the State Council, WNEVC 2019 will take place in Boao, Hainan Province from July 1 to 3, 2019. Hosted by CAST and Hainan Provincial People's Government, the Congress - in the theme of "New Era, New Revolution and New Industry" - will highlight the integrated development of electrification, intelligence, and shared mobility. It will focus on the integrated development of automobiles, energy, transport, and information and communication, along with the application scenarios of smart cities, which will play a leading role in the future new energy vehicle (NEV) development in China and globally.

WNEVC 2019's four significant aspects:

I. It is an important demonstration platform for China to fulfill its commitments under the Paris Agreement on climate change and publicize its achievements in low-carbon and green development to the world. With China's development of NEVs, its determination and actions in addressing global energy and environmental issues, as well as its efforts and outcomes as a responsible country in addressing common global challenges and the future are reflected, enhancing China's international image and status.

II. It is an important cooperation platform for China to gather global innovation resources and promote high-quality development of industries. As the product technologies of new energy vehicles are not yet mature, the performance and quality of new energy vehicles need to be further improved. The industrial chain of new energy vehicles is still relatively weak, and the international competitiveness of key links needs to be further enhanced. The infrastructure for such links as charging and hydrogenation is not perfect and has not formed a mature and sustainable commercial operation model. There is still a long way to go from improving the quality of product technology to that of the industrial development. Therefore, China is in urgent need to carry out wide and high-level global cooperation to jointly solve the challenges faced by the sustainable development of the new energy vehicle industry. Under the complex situation of the rise of global trade protectionism, the holding of the world congress reflects China's attitude of further opening up, promoting cooperation through opening up and promoting development through cooperation.

III. It is an important communication platform for China to explore cross-industry integration and lead industrial transformation and upgrading. The next wave of technological revolution is underway, represented by low-carbon energies, new materials, artificial intelligence and other cutting-edge technologies, which is having a significant, far-reaching impact on global economic and social development, thus the original product technology, industrial form and business model are undergoing significant changes. In this context, the automobile industry is at a tipping point of transformation and upgrading, toward a new era of electrification, intelligence, connectivity and shared mobility. To achieve this grand goal, China needs, in addition to global intelligence and more importantly, to have its voice heard globally and enhance its influence in major technical directions and in the choice of development paths.

IV. It serves as a catalytic agent and booster that fits the strategic positioning of Hainan's development for serving the industrial transformation and upgrading of Hainan, and promoting the high-quality development of local economy and society. Taking this Congress as an opportunity, the attention of the global vehicle industry is attracted to Hainan, and global automobile technological and industry elites will gather in Hainan to jointly learn the development blueprint and seek the development path of Hainan's new energy vehicle industry, playing an important promoting role in implementing the plan of Hainan's new energy vehicle industry and realizing the ambitious goal of taking the lead in electrification.

At the Press Conference, Zhang Jinhua emphasized that the new wave of technological revolution is underway - represented by new energies, novel materials and artificial intelligence and other cutting-edge technologies, which will have a significant, far-reaching impact on today's global economy and social development. At this tipping point of the global automotive industry's transformation and upgrading, the integrated development of electrification, intelligence, and connection and shared mobility is increasingly prominent. As a critical breakthrough for China to pursue the strategic deployments including implementing innovation-driven development strategy, promoting the supply-side structural reform, and advancing the transition between new and old growth drivers, NEV, a guiding industry motivating the interactive development of new industries, new business forms and new economies, has also been an industry of strategic importance to foster new competitiveness in the near future. China will continue to accelerate the development of the NEV industry. Early this year, China has launched the planning and research in the NEV industry to usher in 2035, which have confirmed the general objective, direction and approach of the industrial development over the next 15 years, providing a blueprint for the industry.

Zhang Jinhua said that the Congress has rich content and diversified forms, which include three main sessions.

Conference and Summits: including one plenary session, nine summits, two parallel sessions, one closed-door session and one internal meeting. The event will discuss topics such as the energy revolution, environmental protection, and the green and innovative development and transformation and upgrading of automobile industry, cutting-edge technologies and development trends for NEV, and the cross-industry new integration trends for NEVs.
