Advanced Computing Center for Research and Education Expands Installation of Teradactyl Products
High Performance Computing increases capacity & data protection for science

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., Oct. 24, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Teradactyl announced today that the Advanced Computing Center for Research and Education (ACCRE) at Vanderbilt University has updated its deployment of the True incremental Backup System® (TiBS) and associated secondary storage for active and archive research data.  ACCRE is the premier resource for the high-performance computing needs of research throughout Vanderbilt University.  The ACCRE cluster is used for research in a wide variety of fields, including genetics, particle physics and astronomy.

LStore is a massively scalable logistical primary storage system developed at Vanderbilt.  The LStore file system developed at ACCRE is growing from approximately 7PB to an estimated 10PB by the end of 2018 with significantly more capacity anticipated by 2020. Departments, researchers, and educators from across the campus and the medical school use ACCRE computational and storage - Hadoop Big Data Cluster, GPFS, and LStore – resources.  Additional primary and secondary storage for backup and archive is of critical importance.  Turning to Teradactyl brought the required software and hardware solution set for optimal data protection and performance.

"Teradactyl has provided us with backup and storage solutions for some of the most complex computing platforms available to big data.  We have been working with them since 2003.  They have ported code to support LStore, added capabilities for multiple other platforms, and collaborated with us on both hardware and software development throughout our engagement," said Alan Tackett, technical director and lead developer, ACCRE.  "With the additional update, we have added both capacity and the ability to offer backup and archive services that meet the requirements for Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI).  This requirement for some government grants is already being imposed and we already have a solution!"

In conjunction with Spectra Logic, a company that specializes in manufacturing state of the art data storage solutions that include high-capacity tape libraries and purpose-built storage appliances for numerous concurrent object storage workflows, ACCRE extended backup and archive capacity that could be both centralized and end-user accessible.  Teradactyl is both a reseller and technology partner of Spectra Logic.  This relationship enables turnkey solutions and ongoing integration for the optimum customer experience.
