ADAPTS Announces Ms. Wheelchair California as Spokesperson for its Portable Transfer Sling
Company launches #WhyWait campaign for disaster readiness

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 24, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- ADAPTS LLC (https://www.adapts.org/), manufacturer of a sling, (also known as ADAPTS), to move wheelchair users for evacuations, will announce its new spokesperson, Ms. Wheelchair California 2018, Krystina Jackson, and its #WhyWait online media campaign at the San Mateo Abilities Expo (https://www.abilities.com/bayarea/).

At the ADAPTS' Expo booth, Jackson will discuss her disaster plan and how she uses ADAPTS in her emergency kit. She will be part of the live demonstration of the sling. The San Mateo Expo, one of seven nationwide that ADAPTS attends, runs from Oct. 26 through 28 at the San Mateo County Events Center.

ADAPTS is essential for earthquake kits

As Ms. Wheelchair California 2018, Jackson is featured in a series of #WhyWait company-produced videos addressing emergency preparation for people with reduced mobility. Earlier this year, Jackson became a fan of ADAPTS after evacuating her apartment building during a fire.

"I wish I had my ADAPTS when I had to get away from my apartment without my wheelchair," Jackson said. "I can't imagine going anywhere without it. It provides me a safety net and convenience."

"Why wait for first responders? We should all be disaster ready and people with disabilities need a customized plan that addresses their specific needs," Robin Wearley, inventor of the ADAPTS sling, said.

The time is now to put ADAPTS into wide use

The #WhyWait campaign suggests a proactive plan for any disasters and other applications, including travel or at home, for which ADAPTS can be used.

"I use my sling at the dentist's, at poolside, at the gym, and many other places," Jackson said. "I find a new use for it almost every day."

ADAPTS is a life-saver, developed for airplanes, but available for use anywhere

The ADAPTS sling was initially developed to address the challenge of how to assist a wheelchair user off during aircraft emergencies. Lifting the person by their underarms and feet may seem to be the simplest answer, but the "grab and go" method is limited and it doesn't address the safe transfer of people with all types of disabilities to prevent injury.

ADAPTS lightweight and strong fabric allows anyone with minimal instruction to easily and safely move people to first responders. The portable sling is essential anywhere else a disaster strikes, including cruise ships, public venues, hotels, schools and homes. It can be used to rescue people from anywhere a stretcher cannot go, such as floods, fires or earthquakes.
