See More, Simply, in Microsurgery
Leica Microsystems introduces new PROVIDO multidisciplinary surgical microscope at leading otolaryngology conference in Atlanta

ATLANTA, Oct. 7, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Leica Microsystems will be launching the PROVIDO multidisciplinary surgical microscope at the American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery Foundation 2018 Annual Meeting & OTO Experience, October 7-10, in Atlanta, USA.

See more, simply, with the new PROVIDO surgical microscope from Leica Microsystems.

PROVIDO sets a new standard for visualization quality in its class by bringing together top-of-the-line optics and illumination into a responsive, compact floor stand. Deep and narrow cavities are a daily challenge in many surgical disciplines, particularly spine and otolaryngology. PROVIDO features Leica Microsystems' exclusive FusionOptics technology which unites high resolution with an increased depth of field for a larger three-dimensional area in full, crisp focus. The PROVIDO microscope additionally integrates concentrated 300 W xenon light and specially-designed Small Angle Illumination that helps limit peripheral shadows. As a result, surgeons are able to see more of the surgical field without constantly refocusing or adjusting light.

"Leica has set itself the goal of always pushing the limits of what was possible before to help surgeons all over the world master demanding and sometimes life-changing procedures," says Markus Lusser, President of Leica Microsystems. "With PROVIDO, we have again succeeded in setting a new standard for visualization quality of an entire segment. Now, ENT and spine surgeons can benefit from a highly detailed surgical view that was previously only available in the field of neurosurgery."

To support efficient set-up at the beginning of a procedure, the stand on the microscope is designed to be extremely lightweight and versatile, allowing for fast and almost effortless positioning. The electromagnetic brakes and balancing system enables the PROVIDO to be positioned at the required angle with the lightest touch. For even greater precision, micro adjustments can be achieved with the XY joystick control. Once the optics carrier is positioned it remains in place and is highly resistant to vibration due to the sturdy, full-metal construction of the floor stand.

The PROVIDO made its world debut at EUROSPINE 2018, 19-21 September in Barcelona. The AAO-HNSF 2018 Annual Meeting & OTO Experience in Atlanta, from October 7-10, will be the first time surgeons in the USA have a chance to experience the microscope.
