Fewer Heart Attacks with Digital Guidance: The Promise of DashDietRx™

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., March 6, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- John Cummings is on a mission to help healthcare providers manage preventable conditions like heart disease. He's the 51-year old founder of the digital health platform BodySite.com and it recently occurred to him that he could be dead soon.

John's father died of a heart attack when he was only 54 years old. His death may have been prevented by simple but meaningful lifestyle intervention.

For most people with heart disease, one part of the solution is as simple as lifestyle change. "My dad died in 1991, when preventive wellness wasn't popular yet. So I can't blame doctors for my father's early death.  But today, I can't help but put some blame on the medical community if they fail to provide meaningful and actionable lifestyle guidance," said Cummings. "It's a no brainer."

Heart disease accounts for 1 in every 4 deaths in the US.  If those people followed what the American Heart Association describes as an "ideal healthy diet," they would be about 25% less likely to die of heart failure. US News and World report in January voted the DASH Diet (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) as the #1 healthy eating diet for 8 years running because it's simple and effective at lowering blood pressure and cholesterol.

The American College of Cardiology (ACC) has issued guidelines which echo the same theme: Prescribe DASH. Patients are 5 times more likely to take diet advice from their doctor but only 1 in 3 are providing it.

So shouldn't every doctor immediately prescribe DASH or a similar diet to at-risk patients? Cummings and his team at BodySite think doctors want to help but are just too busy and don't have an easy way to give patients a comprehensive plan that's easy to follow every day. They want to bridge the gap.

BodySite is launching DashDietRx™ this week at the ACC conference as a completely turnkey solution. Doctors can now digitally prescribe DASH to patients in seconds and automatically provide detailed daily support for a full month. It is complete with recipes, educational videos, advice about exercise, mindfulness and more.

DashDietRx is nutritionist-approved and endorsed by cardiologist Regina Druz, MD as part of the Holistic Heart Center's integrative cardiology hypertension protocol.
