Physicians Equally Passionate About MEDITECH's Direction
Designed by a team of physicians, MEDITECH's one patient, one record approach addresses inefficiencies of physician documentation and raises the bar on the user's mobility experience. Dr. Jeff Schleich, MD, family practice physician and Deputy CMIO at FHN (Freeport, Ill.), notices greater efficiency with accessing MEDITECH's clinically-integrated Web EHR from a tablet.
"It's exciting to be truly unwired and having access to the MEDITECH EHR from a mobile device. For instance, when you're on-call, you're able to access a patient's record from anywhere on any device, enabling you to quickly treat that patient, even if you're not in the same room as them," Dr. Schleich said. "Another benefit from a wellness standpoint, I'm able to see the last time a patient had a flu shot or a colonoscopy. Before you'd have to flip through a chart to see if the patient is up-to-date, now this patient information is readily available."
David Travis, DO, Cardiologist and CMIO at Grand View Health (Sellersville, Pa.) is impressed with the wealth of data available at his fingertips since going LIVE with Web Ambulatory July 2016, stating he believes it's making him a better doctor. One particular patient visit, Dr. Travis recalls viewing a patient's CT scan within the EHR. Dr. Travis was not the ordering physician of the scan, however, to get the full story on the patient, Dr. Travis read the CT scan and in doing so found a concerning mass.
"I informed the patient of the scan results and called an Oncologist who advised the patient have a PET scan — so before the patient followed up with their family doctor who ordered the CT scan, I already had access to the results and discussed with the patient, ordered the PET scan, and connected the patient to an Oncologist," Dr. Travis said. "This wouldn't have happened with another system because I wouldn't have looked for the CT scan, but now that it's given to me in the patient record, I can see so much more data and the immediacy of getting results is fabulous."
Hospitalist and CMIO at Magnolia Regional Hospital (Corinth, Miss.), Amanda Finley, DO, was hands-on during the implementation, build and optimization of the hospital's MEDITECH Acute, ED, and Web Ambulatory go-LIVEs.
