Create the Soundtrack to Your Unique Day with "Compose Your Life"
A new musical experience from Shire that generates a personalized song determined by the beat of everyone's unique day

LEXINGTON, Mass., Oct. 19, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- To help bring attention to the many activities, responsibilities and to-dos that make up a day, Shire plc (LSE: SHP, NASDAQ: SHPG) presents Compose Your Life, an online and in-person activation that runs concurrently with Shire's ADHDadulthood disease state awareness campaign. Compose Your Life is available online starting today, and at a live experience for those attending the 6th Annual S.H.E. Summit in New York City.

The Compose Your Life interactive experience takes activities that occur during the course of a day and turns them into a personalized musical story. Each activity is depicted by a stylish icon and paired with a musical tone, and offers the opportunity to reflect on the activities and experiences that make up a person's day. People can compose their own masterpiece at www.ComposeYourLifeExperience.com, and have the option to share their symphony via Facebook.

"We are proud to premier Compose Your Life at the 6th Annual S.H.E. Summit, where thought leaders will address some of today's most relevant social and health issues for women, including mental health. We know that days can be demanding, especially for the busy millennial woman who is juggling various tasks each day. We hope to bring a deeper understanding of how important each moment of their busy day is," said Kim Gariepy, Senior Director, US Marketing for Neuroscience at Shire. "As part of our commitment to helping to raise awareness and education in health, including for the ADHD community, we hope everyone will take a minute to compose their own song."

Nearly 10.5 million adults in the United States are estimated to be affected by ADHD, approximately 4 million of which are adult women. As a result of the disorder, many experience difficulties in multiple aspects of their daily lives. It is also estimated that of the adults that do have the disorder, only 48% of them will speak with a healthcare professional about it. For adults with ADHD, a neurodevelopmental disorder that manifests as a persistent pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity/impulsivity and interferes with functioning or development, managing all the aspects of a day can be a challenge.

"As a mom, wife and professional, it can be challenging to manage everything I have going on at work, at home and in my social life," said Donna, who is diagnosed with ADHD. "I found Compose Your Life to be a fun expression of how everyone's day will look and sound different, and to celebrate that uniqueness."

About ADHD in Adults

Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) impacts people in multiple settings – even beyond work into daily tasks, at home or in social settings.

The specific etiology of ADHD is unknown. The diagnosis is made utilizing criteria specified in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5®). Only a trained healthcare professional can evaluate and diagnose ADHD.

Although there is no cure for ADHD, there are accepted treatment plans that have demonstrated improvement in ADHD symptoms. A comprehensive approach is often advised, which can be established with a healthcare professional and may include a combination of medication, psychotherapy and educational approaches. Ongoing assessment of ADHD management plans is recommended.
