CORONADO, Calif., July 21, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Reproductive Partners Fertility Center - San Diego this week announced groundbreaking success rates in its elective single embryo transfer (eSET) program. Results were released at an international conference of some of the world's most respected In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) physicians and scientists. The La Jolla fertility center now leads the nation in a procedure that can virtually eliminate risky twin pregnancies by implanting only one healthy embryo into each IVF patient.
New 2015 data from Reproductive Partners - San Diego show that 89% of its IVF transfers at the fertility center were eSETs, outpacing the national rate of 25% by a huge margin. In addition, the center experienced a phenomenally high eSET delivery rate of more than 50%.

Often, IVF patients are encouraged to transfer multiple embryos to ensure higher success rates, but the health risks associated with IVF twin pregnancies can be life-threatening and debilitating—for both babies and mothers. Sixty percent of IVF twins are born prematurely and suffer from low birth weight; as a result, the risk of infant mortality rises seven-fold. Developmental delays and life-long illnesses are not unusual. Mothers can develop heart problems, diabetes, hypertension and preeclampsia.
