Where Are Individuals Finding the Capital to Invest? The Answer: In Their 401(k)s and IRAs

SIOUX FALLS, S.D., Jan. 26, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- "For every $1 in a personal savings account, there are over $12 in an individual's retirement savings account," said Todd Yancey, Chief Strategy Officer of IRA Services, a custodian for self-directed IRAs, in his presentation at the 2016 Online Marketplace Cloud Lending Summit.

"Most Americans are unaware that they can direct these stagnant retirement funds into a variety of self-directed investment opportunities including equity-based crowdfunding."

"Increasingly, real estate developers are looking to crowdfunding to finance projects, and the estimated $14 trillion sitting in IRAs and 401(k)s is turning out to be a valuable new source of capital for these innovative new business opportunities," said Yancey.

Yancey moderated a discussion on "Cloud-based Lending in the Commercial & Residential Markets," along with co-panelists Jorge Newberry from American Homeowner Preservation, and Ryan Granito from Fundrise. Topic highlights centered around the recent implementation of JOBS Act Regulation A+, which resulted in a dramatic increase in the number of investors which can now participate in equity-crowdfunding. The panelists pointed out that although there was an increase in the investor pool, there was still an imbalance in the amount of capital available.

Yancey's appearance at The Cloud Lending Summit & Expo, sponsored by the Cloud Computing Association, represents the first of a series of conferences and trade shows that IRA Services will be participating in during the coming year to build on their deeply-rooted history in the financial services industry.
