Gale Announces Advisory Board for New Archive on Human Sexuality and Identity
Launching in March, First Collection will Promote Discussion on Important and Timely Topics

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich., Jan. 6, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Gale, a part of Cengage Learning, announced the advisory board for the Archives of Human Sexuality and Identity, a milestone digital program that will bring together primary source content on gender, sexuality and identity. The advisory board, which consists of leading scholars and librarians in sexuality and gender studies, will help select content for inclusion and inform the development of the archives. The first part of this three-part series – LGBTQ History and Culture Since 1940 – will be available in March.

Archives of Human Sexuality and Identity, Part 1: LGBTQ History and Culture since 1940 will bring together and make fully-searchable rare and unique content ­from microfilm, newsletters, organizational papers, government documents, manuscripts, pamphlets and other types of primary sources. It will support research and instruction in queer history and activism, psychology, sociology, health, political science, policy studies, human rights, gender studies and more.

The noted scholars and librarians on the advisory board currently include:

Part one of the archive will include nearly 2 million pages of content on social, political, health and legal issues impacting LGBTQ communities around the world, including the gay rights movement and the HIV/Aids crisis. Content is sourced from major gay and lesbian organizations worldwide, the Canadian Lesbian and Gay Archives, GLBT Historical Society, New York Public Library, Lesbian Herstory Educational Foundation, Inc., and others.
