Pilot Light Announces Acclaimed Chef And Advisor To Mexican President Gabriela Cámara To Join Citizen Food Conference

CHICAGO, March 3, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- The Citizen Food conference, hosted by Pilot Light, announced the addition of renowned restaurateur Gabriela Cámara to the conference line-up. Ms. Cámara, chef and restaurateur (Contramar, Cala, Onda), Netflix star (A Tale of Two Kitchens), and advisor to Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador will deliver the conference's keynote address.

Pilot Light announced the inaugural Citizen Food conference last month, which brings an all-star group of award-winning chefs and thought-leaders from across the U.S. including Dan Barber (Blue Hill, Blue Hill at Stone Barns, Row 7 Seed Company), Dan Giusti (Noma, Brigaid), Camilla Marcus (west~bourne, TechTable), Tunde Wey (SAARTJ, BabyZoos), Anthony Myint (Mission Chinese Food, The Perennial, Zero Foodprint), Betti Wiggins (Houston Independent School District), Geeta Maker-Clark, MD, ABOIM (University of Chicago), and life-long food advocate Ann Cooper  "The Renegade Lunch Lady." Pilot Light founding Chicago chefs Paul Kahan (One-Off Hospitality Group, Black Bird, Avec, Publican, Big Star), Jason Hammel (Lula Café, Marisol, Superkhana International), Matthias Merges (Folk Art Management Group, Billy Sunday, Mordecai, Hush Money) and Justin Large (Left Coast Food + Juice) will prepare the evening's dinner for guests, to be hosted at the Museum of Contemporary Art.

Food advocacy and social change is the heart of the Citizen Food conference. Speakers will share their experience and efforts to improve racial and gender equality, education and school lunch programs and sustainability. 

The day-long Citizen Food conference will be held at the Ace Hotel in Chicago on Monday, April 20, 2020, and will include breakfast, lunch, a cocktail reception and dinner. Following the speaker presentations attendees will be bussed to the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago for a cocktail reception, keynote address by Gabriela Cámara and a family-style dinner experience hosted by Pilot Light's founding chefs.

About Gabriela Cámara
Gabriela Cámara is a chef, restaurant owner and author (My Mexico City Kitchen). Cámara opened her first restaurant, the beloved Contramar, in Mexico City in 1998, followed by Cala in San Francisco in 2015, and this past fall she consulted on Onda in collaboration with Jessica Koslow (Sqirl) in Los Angeles. Aside from the cuisine, Cámara is known for her social advocacy. She has made it a practice to hire formerly incarcerated employees to staff Cala and she has been a longtime advocate of sustainability since opening Contramar. This past year she accepted the opportunity to return to Mexico City and advise Mexican President, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, on food policy.
