Elkem Silicones To Showcase Expanded Implant Offering At MD&M West 2018

EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J., Jan. 30, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Elkem Silicones will showcase its expanded offering for long-term implantable silicones at the Medical Design & Manufacturing (MD&M) West conference, booth 2239 at the Anaheim Convention Center, February 6 through 8.

Elkem Silicones now offers a full range of high consistency rubbers (HCRs) designed specifically for long-term implantable compression molding and extrusion applications, such as hydrocephalus shunts, central catheters and active implantable devices.  Available in 20 to 80 ShA hardness range, these materials are supported by device Master Files (MAF) filed with the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA). Like all Silbione® Biomedical branded products, these HCRs are produced and packaged in certified and accredited ISO 8 and ISO 7 clean rooms in York, S.C.

"For the last several years, Elkem Silicones has been positioning ourselves as the 'go-to' supplier for long-term implants, and the market has responded," said Bob Waitt, market manager for Elkem Silicones Healthcare in North America.  "As a result, our product range and capabilities have expanded in step with our customers' growing needs."

In addition to its range of HCRs, Elkem Silicones will promote its Silbione® Biomedical low consistency elastomers for drug delivery applications.  Available in 25 to 40 ShA hardness range, these materials are supported by Drug Master Files (DMAF) with the FDA.

"Our goal is to be the partner of choice for long-term implant applications, using our industry-leading experience, innovation and fully-integrated manufacturing capabilities to help our customers achieve more," continued Waitt. "Helping our customers develop the next generation of implantable device by providing them with the next generation of implantable silicone materials is what we do."

Elkem Silicones also will present its range of Silbione® Soft Skin Adhesives, biocompatible gels that provide gentle and non-irritating adhesion to skin. These materials are widely used in advanced wound care applications to help promote healing.
