SAS and Trilliant Join Forces to Tackle IoT and Energy Management Challenges
Combining energy communications and analytics can transform utilities, smart cities efforts

RALEIGH, N.C., Jan. 23, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- With the advent of systems that connect everything from a city's utility grid to its transportation and parking systems, cities are getting smarter every day for the citizens' benefit. One area that is especially hot today is smart street lighting that helps keep citizens safer. Trilliant, a global provider of secure, enterprise-wide smart energy communication systems, and analytics leader SAS have signed an agreement that enables data-driven decisions for optimizing connected grid devices in these systems.

Under this agreement, Trilliant and SAS will work together to achieve system and interface compatibility, specifically targeting analytics for the internet of things (IoT). Trilliant will offer real-time data from a secure, multi-technology, multi-application networking platform, and SAS will integrate leading event stream processing for structured and unstructured data. SAS also will offer machine learning for event detection, revenue protection and distributed energy resource optimization.

"Both SAS and Trilliant have a strong, lasting presence in the energy industry," said Ryan Gerbrandt, senior vice president for Trilliant. "This collaboration brings together the analytics capabilities that SAS is known for and Trilliant's vendor-agnostic, multi-technology approach to address modern energy management challenges that are not constrained by device type or data source."

The companies are already working together on application integration. One of the first notable exchanges of data will be with the award-winning Town of Cary Smart City Project.  "We are excited to work with such great companies," said Nicole Raimundo, chief information officer at Town of Cary, North Carolina. "The goal of this program is to drive economic growth and improve quality of life for our citizens by harnessing technology that fosters smart programs."

Upon completion of the installation and implementation, Trilliant will make real-time smart street lighting data available to SAS to enable analytics-based applications to improve safety and efficiency throughout the town.

"Our partnership with Trilliant is focused on enabling a trusted analytic platform to unlock value from device data regardless of the asset type or supplier," said Tim Fairchild, director of the SAS Global Energy and Communications Practice. "From street lights to smart meters and beyond, there's an exciting future ahead for SAS, Trilliant and our customers."

SAS and Trilliant are leading members of the vibrant North Carolina clean tech economy. The companies were first introduced through the Research Triangle Cleantech Cluster (RTCC), an industry-funded, industry-led initiative of business, government, academic and nonprofit leaders focused on accelerating clean tech innovation in North Carolina.
