A Flood of Stormwater Management Experts to Hit the Shores of Puget Sound to Reassess Stormwater in Response to Climate Change

BELLEVUE, Wash., Aug. 8, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Having recorded only three 100-degree days in over a century—and with just one-third of the metropolitan residences equipped with air-conditioning—Seattle, Washington is currently roasting in a historic heat wave and overpowering sunshine.

Last week the typically irriguous Puget Sound region was primed to hit all-time record highs, but sudden wildfire haze set in to lessen the heat intensity. The threat of extreme heat and climate change, however, remains an imminent public health risk in the region and across the globe.

In addition to blistering heat waves, increased stormwater runoff, flooding, low flows, and drought are increasingly threatening public health and safety, as rainfall frequency, duration, and magnitude are contingent on the climate.

To address this imminent public health and safety issue, stormwater professionals of diverse backgrounds and specialties are hailing from the Pacific Northwest and around North America for StormCon on the shores of Puget Sound from August 27th-31st, 2017.

The sixteenth annual North American Stormwater Management Conference and Exposition will bring an unprecedented array of engineers, consultants, commercial property executives, watershed managers, builders and contractors, government officials, inspectors, designers, regulators, enforcement officials, planners, researchers, educators, EPA officials, and other water-quality professionals under one roof to reassess stormwater management in the face of climate change and collaborate on how to refine the design of stormwater and flood mitigation facilities to account for the effects of climate change.

With the urgent need to protect our water supply and public safety from the effects of climate change, the flood and drought management strategies discussed and technologies on display at StormCon should not be missed.

The StormCon Program Guide details the pre-conference and conference training and certification courses, exhibit hall and networking opportunities, and hotel accommodations.

Registration is open, but spots are quickly filling up for exhibitors, participants, and those interested in earning CEU and PDH credits for attending workshops and panel discussions with the top experts in stormwater management and climate change.
