Investment in Movement-Friendly Classroom Environments Continues to Drive Ergotron to Top of Class
Ergotron's efforts recognized with national award from Active Schools

ST. PAUL, Minn., June 1, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- As studies continue to find positive correlations between movement and academic performance, the interest in movement-friendly classrooms has increased. In light of this research, Ergotron, Inc., a leader in the sit-stand market, is introducing low-level physical activity interventions into the classroom through products like the LearnFit®Adjustable Standing Desk. The company was recently recognized at the Partnership for Healthier America Summit in Washington, D.C., where it was named an Active Schools Partner of the Year. The award recognizes organizations that have prioritized the cause of Active Schools and supported schools in implementing physical education and activity during the past year.

Given both organizations' shared objectives to create awareness of youth physical inactivity and find solutions to the problem, Ergotron and Active Schools have developed a strong partnership to impact change in schools across the country. Last year, Ergotron and Active Schools worked together on a number of initiatives, including a national essay contest which garnered more than 400 entries. The winner of the inaugural competition, Pottstown High School (Pottstown, PA), was granted a classroom of Ergotron's LearnFit adjustable standing desks to enhance its "whole body learning" approach.

"Ergotron has demonstrated leadership, innovation and commitment to creating active schools for all kids," explained Charlene Burgeson, Active Schools executive director. "Partnering with Ergotron was natural given our mutual goal to increase physical activity opportunities for students. We're thrilled to recognize the important work Ergotron has accomplished this year."

Ergotron recognizes schools and districts that are pioneering wellness initiatives, and grants desks through a number of national partnerships. The company also partners with Fuel Up to Play 60 and local Dairy Councils to host events in schools throughout the country to teach students how proper nutrition and physical activity can promote better health and academic performance. The most recent event was held at Ramsey Middle School in Minneapolis, with a visit from the Viktor the Viking and Minnesota Viking Cheerleaders. To continue the momentum through the 2017-2018 school year, events are scheduled in Tampa Bay, FL, and Chicago, IL, this fall.

"Students spend a majority of their waking day in sedentary school environments. The causal link between sedentary behavior and metabolic syndromes not only contributes to public health concerns, but also puts our students at a learning disadvantage," said Bob Hill, Ergotron's education manager. "There is an urgency to break up the sedentary behavior of our youth — active kids stay active and perform better academically and are more productive. Introducing low-level activity in the classroom, such as having students use sit-stand desks, helps instill these healthy and productive habits."

Educators and administrators interested in learning more can meet with Ergotron at ISTE (booth #2418) in San Antonio on June 25-28, 2017. For more information about Ergotron LearnFit Desks in classrooms, visit Ergotron's Spotlight Classrooms or http://www.juststand.org/kids.
