ARMONK, N.Y., May 16, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced that Adam Kocoloski, IBM Fellow and CTO of the IBM Watson Data Platform, will be delivering a keynote at ApacheCon North America in Miami, Florida. Taking place May 16th – 18th, ApacheCon brings developers, data scientists and data engineers together each year to learn about and collaborate on projects driving the future of open source, web technologies and cloud.
In his keynote, Adam will specifically focus on the role the open community has had in the continued evolution and success of Apache CouchDB for nearly a decade. Built largely by the open community and with continued support from both Apache and IBM, CouchDB is an open source and NoSQL document-oriented database delivered over the cloud. Its framework makes it ideal for working with large and unstructured datasets, such as those generated by networks of intelligent IoT devices. For example, rather than building and managing databases in-house, an IoT app could use a CouchDB framework to store, analyze and connect incoming device data.
Adam co-founded Cloudant, the distributed database-as-a-service company built on top of CouchDB and acquired by IBM in 2014. Since forming Cloudant into a key pillar of its Watson Data Platform, IBM has continued to contribute back to the Apache CouchDB community, including the release of Couch 2.0.
Additionally, Adam will highlight how an open codebase and community are contributing to the success of several other open projects, including Apache Spark, Apache Edgent and Apache OpenWhisk.
The IBM Watson Data Platform allows developers, data scientists and product managers across an organization to connect and transform how they use data to accelerate innovation. Featuring embedded and cognitive-assisted machine learning, the platform fuels users with customized tools and data analytics services powered by IBM Cloud infrastructure, helping companies to more easily work and build with data to rapidly become cognitive businesses.
Adam's keynote, titled "Apache CouchDB: A Tale of Community, Cooperation and Code" will take place on Tuesday, May 16th at 9:50 a.m. EDT. For more information on ApacheCon 2017 in Miami, visit http://events.linuxfoundation.org/events/apachecon-north-america.
