ecomedes launches expanded search tool, streamlines sustainable product purchasing
ecomedes earns business case study award at Sustainable Leadership Council Summit

FORT MYERS, Fla., May 12, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- To simplify the purchase and sale of sustainable products online, ecomedes has introduced its expanded search platform to attendees at the Sustainable Purchase Leadership Council's Summit on May 10. Working with the General Services Administration, ecomedes customized its proprietary platform "fulcrum" to expand their highly regarded Sustainable Facilities Tool (SFTool) to include SFTool Product Search with the goal of streamlining sustainable product procurement for Federal agencies and the general public. During the Summit, an ecomedes case study titled, "Leveraging Data to Simplify and Streamline Sustainable Procurement" received Outstanding Case Study Award for its work with the federal government.

Now, instead of spending inordinate amounts of time chasing down data from the far reaches of the internet, anyone can visit SFTool Product Search to find, compare, evaluate, document and procure sustainable products, a resource particularly useful for procurement and sustainability officers. The Search simplifies and streamlines the specifying and buying process, saving everyone time, money, and effort.

The search includes SFTool's Green Procurement Compilation (GPC) – a resource that consolidates and organizes federal green purchasing requirements (e.g. Energy Star, WaterSense). Built by ecomedes, fulcrum leverages data from across the green building community, including manufacturer product specification and materials data, federal and industry ecolabels and standards, third-party certification requirements, green building rating systems like LEED, and federally mandated procurement standards. Fulcum, the ecomedes platform, connects all of these disparate data sources in one place.

Appliances, building finishes, furnishing, cleaning products, construction, electronics and lighting are among the more than 150 product categories available, and the tool searches 5,700 brands, 300,000 products and 4.2 million eco-data points, aggregating product-level data and automates product performance calculations and project analytics. This allows organizations to track the "watts and water" results of their buying decision and document progress towards sustainable purchasing and building goals including compliance with green building rating systems. Information is searched, displayed and documented in a simple shopping-page type format for environmentally responsible purchasing.

"The fulcrum platform is designed to automate the current fragmented and time-consuming workflows that are the norm with sustainable purchasing," said Paul Shahriari, CEO and Founder, ecomedes. "We are pleased to partner with SPLC and to customize the platform to meet their needs. While other green product databases exist, none cover the breadth of the industry and federal requirements and offer automatic documentation of products for rating systems like LEED and WELL. With ecomedes, the data is mapped to procurement requirements and green building standards, bringing clarity for decision makers as they select the right products for their projects."
