"As more embedded systems applications come online, ensuring the safety and security of the devices that we create needs to become our number one priority. I'm honored to address the embedded systems community at ESC Boston and welcome the opportunity to discuss ways that we as an industry can work together to remedy the dangerous flaws in safety-critical device design," said Michael Barr, Co-Founder and CTO, Barr Group.

Meet the 2017 Keynote Speakers

Michael Barr, Co-Founder and CTO, Barr Group

Michael Barr is a former adjunct professor of electrical and computer engineering with over a decade of software design and implementation experience. Recognized as an expert in the field of embedded software process and architecture, Barr has been admitted as a testifying expert witness in U.S. and Canadian court cases involving issues of reverse engineering, patent infringement, theft of copyrighted source code and more.

For three and a half years Barr served as editor-in-chief of Embedded Systems Programming magazine and is the author of three books and more than 60 articles and papers on embedded systems. To this day, millions of products are still powered by software written by Barr.

Barr's presentation, Embedded Systems Safety & Security: Dangerous Flaws in Safety-Critical Device Design, will cover the safety and security concerns that exist in the IoT landscape. This includes designing security into safety critical devices and preventing attacks on connected safety-critical devices, which can be deadly. Barr's presentation will take place May 3 and will be immediately followed by a meet and greet opportunity with Barr.
