EnergySec Event Tackles Cybersecurity Workforce Challenge

CLACKAMAS, Ore., March 22, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The Energy Sector Security Consortium, Inc. (EnergySec) today announced a new educational event to address the shortage of cybersecurity professionals in the electric sector. This event, to be held near Austin, TX, on May 15-19th, is designed for early to mid career cybersecurity professionals currently employed at electric utilities in North America.

Students will receive technical instruction on various topics including threat hunting, network packet analysis, and security assessments. Sessions will also cover operational technology used in the electric sector, and instructional workshops from industry vendors. Students will also participate in facility tours hosted by the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA), and evening activities designed to build relationships within industry and strengthen the community of cybersecurity professionals.

The availability of skilled cybersecurity professionals has been identified as a significant risk to the reliability of the electric power system. This event, hosted by LCRA at its McKinney Roughs Nature Park event center near Austin, is part of EnergySec's program to build and develop the cybersecurity workforce in the electric sector.
