Brookfield Residential Announces New Smart Home Featuring Amazon Alexa Voice-Enabled Home Automation

FAIRFAX, Va., Dec. 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Brookfield Residential chose one of the year's most popular tech conferences to announce its latest innovative new home project, The Smart Home powered by Amazon Alexa.

The Brookfield Residential Smart Home is the first to fully integrate voice-enabled home automation, incorporating the best-selling Alexa platform.

AWS re:Invent 2016 attracted thousands of web developers, consultants, engineers and executives surrounding the Amazon Web Services Community. They became the first to learn about this unique collaboration between Amazon and Brookfield Residential's dynamic Washington, D.C. division.

The home brings voice-enabled automation to the masses — making it easy, adaptable and affordable. Brookfield Residential is making the technology immediately available to its homebuyers in the D.C. region. It also used the stage at AWS re:Invent to challenge developers to create new skills for Alexa and The Smart Home.

"This was the perfect venue, and we couldn't be happier with the reaction," said division president Robert Hubbell. "The developers are energized, and many already have great ideas for new technology that can be incorporated into the home."

The Brookfield Residential Smart Home is located within the popular Avendale community in Northern Virginia, just outside of the nation's capital. With just your voice, you can:

  • Check the security camera
  • Unlock the door
  • Turn on the lights
  • Raise the blinds
  • Water the lawn
  • Pre-heat the oven
  • Change the thermostat
  • Play your favorite music
  • And many, many more features

Brookfield has also integrated a series of custom skills, triggering a variety of actions with a single command.

"The best part about The Brookfield Residential Smart Home is that it will adapt as new technology appears," Hubbell said. "If the homebuyer wants to incorporate the latest device in the months and years ahead, the home will immediately recognize it. This was important to us to ensure that the home stays on the leading edge of technology."

Brookfield Residential's D.C. division has built a reputation for innovating through a series of forward-thinking concept homes. The most recent is The PureBlue Home, which explored the latest technologies in energy efficiency and sustainability. The home ultimately created more energy than it consumed.

The team also recently unveiled My Brookfield Home, a first-of-its-kind app that helps homebuyers stay connected during the building process.
