SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov. 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- uSens, Inc., a pioneer in developing natural hand-and-head tracking technologies for Augmented and Virtual Reality, has selected 10 semifinalists for the U.S. regional competition of its uDev Challenge. With a total prize pool of $200,000, this competition for developers in the U.S. and China requires original applications for AR and VR using the uSens Software Development Kit for integrating controller-free hand-and-head position tracking. uSens is exhibiting its cutting-edge "inside out" tracking technologies at the Unity Unite 2016 event booth 19 in Los Angeles today through November 3.
Eligible semifinalist projects are original apps for any industry and can be made for Samsung Gear VR™, Google Cardboard™, HTC Vive™, or Oculus Rift™. The chosen projects are:
"We're thrilled to see so many original, fascinating applications envisioned by the uDev Challenge nominees," said Dr. Yue Fei, uSens CTO and co-founder. "Achieving natural movement in augmented and virtual reality scenarios is one of the challenges to mass adoption for both PC-based and mobile systems. Our technologies help developers to create the most naturally interactive 3D experiences without hindering device performance or sapping battery power." Dr. Fei is speaking at Unite 2016 at 2:30 pm on November 2 on "Input and Tracking: Mass Market ARVR Adoption is Coming Soon."
With support from the expert uSens engineering team, uDev Challenge semifinalists will develop their applications using the uSens SDK and an entry-level uSens Fingo module for adding 26DOF controller-free hand tracking and marker-based 6DOF head position tracking. uSens recently announced the uSens Fingo series of three modules that offer advanced 3D human-computer interaction capability for both mobile and tethered systems. By attaching a Fingo to the front of an HMD, end users can enjoy their favorite apps without major sacrifices to system power consumption or performance - even on mobile. (See today's other press release from uSens on its Color Fingo.)
uDev Challenge semifinalists will submit their app projects to uSens by January 27, 2017. Judges will evaluate the projects based on their creativity, user experience, overall polish, business potential, and the application of uSens hand-tracking technologies. The prize winners will be announced during the Game Developer Conference (GDC) in San Francisco from February 27 to March 3, 2017. Prizes include a $50,000 grand prize, a $25,000 second prize, a $10,000 third prize, and additional cash prizes for runners-up.
