WASHINGTON, Jan. 21, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The Valve Manufacturers Association (VMA) is offering two educational sessions this spring for professionals in the valve, actuator and controls industry: a seminar that addresses hard-hitting technical issues regarding safety and the environment and the latest session of its popular basics learning course.
TECHNICAL TOPICS FOCUS ON SAFETY
The VMA Technical Seminar & Exhibits is designed for mid-to-upper-level managers seeking a deeper understanding of the inner workings of the industry. This year's theme of "Safety and the Environment" is one of the most talked about topics among those responsible for manufacturing and using valves.
At the March 9-11 event at Harrah's New Orleans, New Orleans, LA, attendees will hear from top level industry experts, who will discuss how to keep people and operations from harm as well as how to meet increasingly stringent government regulations.
Leading off the event is keynote speaker Douglas Morris, chief of Offshore Programs, Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE), who will bring attendees up to date on the latest BSEE regulations as well as enforcement issues. Additional sessions will address critical topics such as trends in advanced systems—including High Integrity Pressure Protection Systems—and the latest issues regarding fugitive emissions and new concerns in light of events such as the Deepwater horizon oil spill and the Fukushima-Daiichi nuclear accidents. Regulatory experts will inform attendees about changes to standards, tougher performance requirements and what's happening within governmental bodies.
The program also includes tabletop displays on the afternoon of March 10, where industry suppliers will showcase flow control products related to manufacturing and end-user industries. In addition, an optional tour is being held March 9 at NASA's Michoud Assembly facility. (Because of background checks to enter this secure facility, only those who sign up by Jan. 22 will be able to attend the tour).

BASICS COURSE OFFERS HANDS-ON COMPONENT
Almost 1,500 people have already taken advantage of VMA's highly rated Valve Basics Seminar & Exhibits, which features Valves, Actuators & Controls 101 and 201. The next seminar is April 19-21 at the Embassy Suites Chicago O'Hare-Rosemont, Rosemont, IL.
The first day of the Valve Basics course (April 19) gives people new to the industry or those who need a refresher course an understanding of the different types of valves—linear, quarter-turn, check, and pressure-relief valves, as well as manual and fluid-powered actuators. Day two (April 20) covers more complicated equipment such as electric actuators, solenoid valves, and control valves and systems, and a half-day is devoted to the popular Valve Petting Zoo, which enables attendees to see up close how what they're learning actually works in the field. Day three (April 21) is an intermediate-level course that introduces attendees to issues such as: materials requirements; fugitive emissions control; critical service applications; controls—on/off panels for fluid powered actuators; valve data, feedback and asset monitoring; and valve repair.
A tabletop exhibit is also an important part of the basics courses and is offered during the afternoon of first day (April 19) so that vendors can showcase their products and services.
