BELLEVUE, Wash., Nov. 18, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Today during the Connect (); // 2015 conference in New York City, Smartsheet - the spreadsheet-inspired collaborative work management platform - announced the availability of Smartsheet for Outlook for all Office 365 users. The integration between Microsoft Outlook and Smartsheet's collaborative work management solution helps Office 365 users manage work in Smartsheet straight from their inbox to increase productivity and efficiency.

"Microsoft is committed to helping partners like Smartsheet build value on top of the Office 365 platform," said Rob Lefferts, General Manager of Office Extensibility at Microsoft. "Smartsheet for Outlook is a great example of a partner leveraging innovations for Office experiences that are more relevant and personalized to each individual. Microsoft looks forward to continuing our great partnership with Smartsheet to drive even more innovation and value to our joint customer base."

The beta version of Smartsheet for Outlook won the 'Best Office 365 app' award at Microsoft's Worldwide Partner Conference earlier this year, and users have been impressed with its customer-centric functionality, as evidenced by user feedback in the Office store. "I've been a long-time user of both Outlook and Smartsheet," said Clark Morgan. "They have both become really great, and frankly indispensable tools for me these past several years. This tool makes them both even better. Easy installation and setup, comprehensive yet uncluttered integration and really zippy performance make this a winning combination for me. I'm a customer for life if this keeps up."

Smartsheet for Outlook enables users to create or edit Smartsheet tasks and collaborate on them in real-time, all without leaving their Outlook inbox. Specifically, features in Smartsheet for Outlook include the ability to:

  • Track and organize data within email communications into projects or tasks without leaving the Outlook inbox, all with a couple of clicks
  • Convert any email into a shared item that instantly appears as a row in a Smartsheet project or sheet for all collaborators to see and act on
  • Create or edit a Smartsheet item or task, then assign it to someone, schedule it, or add comments and other relevant details from the email
  • Attach the entire email as a discussion associated with a Smartsheet item along with accompanying attachments
  • Search for Smartsheet projects, processes or tasks from within Outlook

"Email usage continues to grow, and analysts predict that by 2019 more than 2.9 billion people worldwide will have an email account, representing a third of the global population," said Mark Mader, CEO of Smartsheet. "Work and email will remain inextricably tied, with workers demanding more native capabilities from their inbox. Smartsheet for Outlook gives users a seamless experience to help get that work assigned, updated and completed more quickly, without ever having to leave their Outlook inbox."

Smartsheet for Outlook leverages the latest Microsoft Graphapplication programming interface (API), setting the foundation for faster, efficient integration cycles with other Office products.
