ActiveAether CEO on Distributed Ledger Technology Panel at Silicon Valley All Hands Meeting

NEW YORK, Oct. 16, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- ActiveAether CEO Robert MacInnis, Ph.D., joined representatives from Baker Botts and Ernst & Young yesterday on a distributed ledger technology panel at the 30th Annual All Hands Meeting, Silicon Valley's signature conference for in-house legal, IP and HR professionals. The session, titled "Distributed Ledger Technology: A Guide for the Perplexed", provided an overview of cryptocurrencies, tokens, blockchain and other applications of distributed ledger technology.

Dr. MacInnis, who raised $4.5M earlier this year for FogCoin, the cryptocurrency used in his company's ActiveAether fog computing network, is an expert in distributed systems and holds several patents in the space. Along with Sam Dibble, Partner at Baker Botts and Nevin Sethi, Partner at Ernst & Young, Dr. MacInnis covered both technical and regulatory nuances of blockchain and its associated funding mechanisms.

"We speak from experience in acknowledging that adhering to the SEC's requirements is an enormous undertaking, but for any cryptocurrency project hoping to operate long-term in the U.S., regulatory compliance is an absolute requirement, and one that we're happy to fulfil," said Dr. MacInnis. "This was a great opportunity to share with some of Silicon Valley's top legal councils that there is a viable, regulatory-compliant path for ICOs, and that here in the U.S., it is no longer the Wild West."

The panel was part of the Fintech and Life Sciences track at the All Hands Meeting, and covered developments in the use of distributed ledger technology and innovations in how funds are raised, including recent trends in ICOs, SAFTs and token pre-sales. Panelists also discussed the securities, tax and consumer protection issues raised by these innovations.
