Silk Road expo: goodwill messenger on the Belt and Road routes

BEIJING, Aug. 16, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- A news report by China.org.cn on the Silk Road International Exposition in Shaanxi province:

Located in the geographical heart of the country, Shaanxi province is an important birthplace of the Chinese civilization. It is not only the starting point of the ancient Silk Road, but also a focal point of China's reform and opening-up drive in inland areas with a unique, landmark role in advancing the Belt and Road Initiative.

During an inspection tour in Shaanxi province in February 2015, Chinese President Xi Jinping stressed that it should lose no time in building a new platform of international cooperation and ensuring the success of the Silk Road International Exposition.

The exposition is China's only international exhibition named after the Silk Road. It focuses on promoting cooperation, exchanges and trade contacts with countries and regions along the Belt and Road routes, and achieving interconnected development in eastern and western parts of China. So far, it has been successfully held three times.

With the theme of "New Era, New Pattern and New Development," the third Silk Road International Exposition was held in Xi'an, capital city of Shaanxi province, from May 11 to 15, 2018. More than 1,900 guests, including 52 senior politicians, from 75 countries and regions participated, with the United Kingdom and Malaysia as the honored guest countries. There were more than 40 conferences and activities held over the period, covering more than 20 fields, such as economy and trade, people-to-people exchanges, science and technology. The event also organized related cultural activities, food shows and competitions, offering a comprehensive package for all participants to engage in thorough communication.

Unlike the previous two expositions, this year's event broke down the boundaries between countries and industries. The exhibition venue combined the display areas of different products and industries. Latest technology and products – in the sectors of aerospace, intelligent manufacturing, energy saving and environmental protection – were a highlight. The exhibitors came from more than 20 countries, including the United States and France, as well as more than 30 overseas enterprises, with the total number of exhibitors exceeding 2,000 and over 10,000 kinds of distinctive products being displayed. Hence, the goal to achieve a more internationalized, specialized and brand-development focus was achieved.

Since ancient times, the Silk Road has been a pathway of peace, civilization and openness. In the new era, the Belt and Road Initiative is further providing all countries with a huge and inclusive platform for cooperation and development. The Silk Road International Exposition connects the past with the future, and China with the world. As a goodwill messenger on the road connecting Asia and Europe, the exposition is building a platform for all countries to engage in government-level dialogue, enterprise cooperation, people-to-people exchanges, and interaction between cities, creating unlimited opportunities and possibilities for both China and the world at large.
