Forensic Expert Heather Mahalik to Share How to Successfully Hunt and Uncover Digital Evidence at Denver Cyber Security Training Event
Course Topics to Include Cyber Defense, Ethical Hacking, Penetration Testing, Digital Forensics, Security Management and More

Bethesda, Md., Aug. 2, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- SANS Institute, the global leader in cyber security training, today announced the keynote address for SANS Denver 2018 (#SANSDenver) taking place October 15-20 in Colorado. Forensic expert Heather Mahalik (@HeatherMahalik) will offer valuable insight into digital investigations during her keynote discussion Convergence Forensics: Leveraging Multiple Skills to Analyze Evidence.

According to Mahalik, "Most people are trained in specific arenas in digital forensics and incident response (DFIR), but happens when they hit a wall in an investigation? Where will they turn and what will be their approach be when an artifact doesn't make sense? Will they understand the risks for their actions (i.e. data collection, steps in analysis, etc.). Join me in Denver where I will provide insight into the primary DFIR disciplines, a general overview on what each is, and examples of cases where multiple disciplines were needed. For anyone involved with digital investigations, this is one talk you won't want to miss."

In addition to her keynote discussion, Mahalik will teach the FOR500: Windows Forensic Analysis course. This course focuses on building in-depth digital forensics knowledge of the Microsoft Windows operating systems. Students will learn how to recover, analyze, and authenticate forensic data on Windows systems, track user activity on a network, and organize findings for use in incident response, internal investigations, and civil/criminal litigation.
