Kyvos Insights to be Recognized as Solution Sponsor for 2018 TDWI Best Practices Award Winner in Emerging Technologies and Methods Category
Verizon created and refined big data best practices and innovations in business intelligence while utilizing disruptive OLAP on Hadoop technology to empower its business teams to new levels of performance

LOS GATOS, Calif., July 26, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Kyvos Insights, a big data analytics company, today congratulated Verizon's data management team on being recognized as the 2018 Best Practices Award winner in the Emerging Technologies and Methods category by TDWI, the premier source for in-depth education and research on all things data. Kyvos Insights will be recognized as the solution sponsor for this as well. The Best Practices Awards will be presented at TDWI Anaheim, which takes place August 5-10, 2018, at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim, Calif.

Kyvos Insights is a big data analytics company that offers an OLAP-on-Hadoop solution called Kyvos.

Kyvos Insights' customer, Verizon, faced the challenge of analyzing the viewership data generated by more than 6 million customers to assess the patterns, popular channels and other factors the company uses to create better programming for consumers and greater value for its advertisers. Traditional business intelligence (BI) tools worked with modest amounts of information but were unable to effectively process the company's increasingly large data sets, let alone support numerous business users in their efforts to act on data-driven insights in real time.

Business users also increasingly called on Verizon's IT and data management team for assistance with data queries. Project leaders determined that to effectively use its big data, the company needed to empower their users to intuitively and effectively conduct self-service BI on some of the world's largest data sets - something that would require the creation of a new Big Data Analytics platform capable of unprecedented performance.

"BI is the most important big data use case for most organizations, but traditional BI on big data solutions can't handle the scale of today's data sets or large numbers of concurrent users," said Ajay Anand, vice president of products and marketing at Kyvos Insights and a big data veteran who managed the Hadoop project while at Yahoo!. "The work of Verizon's data management team offers a stellar example of how organizations can realize the promise of big data and use the resulting BI to work in better, more effective ways."

Verizon's team worked with several partners to create their Big Data analytics platform. The project brings together structured and unstructured data from multiple sources, and includes the creation of a BI Consumption Layer with Kyvos that enables users to connect with Big Data interactively and analyze it visually.

TDWI's Best Practices Awards identify and honor companies that demonstrate excellence and innovation in developing, deploying, and maintaining BI, DW, and related data management applications. Syed Yusuf Latheef, director, systems engineering at Verizon, and Arun Jinde - technical architect at Verizon - will accept the award in the Emerging Technologies and Methods category on behalf of Verizon's IT and data management team.

All nominated solutions were evaluated by TDWI analysts and faculty. Award winners were selected by a panel of independent judges with expertise in BI, data warehousing, and analytics. Selections were based on business impact, maturity, innovation, and relevance in their field.

"With so many companies innovating with data and analytics, the level of competition for the Best Practices Awards grows each year," said Meighan Berberich, president of TDWI. "It's a privilege to recognize these individuals and companies for their forward-thinking programs and diverse solutions. The winners are truly world-class, and we look forward to presenting the awards this August."
