The organizer of the summit is Mass Tort Nexus, an organization working to provide attorneys with the information, tools, support, and education necessary to help their clients secure the legal outcomes they seek in a perpetually changing legal landscape.

Runyon's presentation, "Opioid Use Disorder – The Cost is Personal", will draw on his years of first-hand experience in both enforcement and rehabilitation. Throughout his career, Runyon has experienced countless opioid-related situations first hand, and there are few, if any, areas surrounding opioid use and recovery he does not have experience handling. At Novus he has seen the wide social and personal variety of individuals battling addiction. "Each person must get through the detoxification process personally and win at it in order to start fixing the rest of their lives," he said.

In his presentation, Runyon will review the history and outcome of compelling cases that shed light on the wide social issue of detoxification and rehabilitation. The variety of patient circumstances is unlimited, and the quality of care and service is a key to positive outcomes.

"Addiction will take you farther than you want to go, keep you longer than you want to stay, and cost you more than you want to pay," Runyon said. "Fortunately, significant numbers can and do get through successfully. In the end, both the disastrous costs and positive outcomes of addiction are personal."
