METROCON17 Expo & Conference Gives Back to the Architecture & Design Industry

DALLAS, Sept. 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The METROCON17 Expo & Conference Committee, which is made up of 22 enthusiastic volunteers representing several associations focusing on the built environment, was thrilled to present the Keynote Award honoring Sandy Chilewich and Joe Sultan during their Keynote Address, which took place at Dallas Market Hall on August 11th.

On their behalf, METROCON donated $1,000 to the Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC), whose mission is the advancement of interior design education, scholarship, and service. IDEC President-Elect Hepi Wachter, ASID, CAPS, LEED AP, and IDEC Southwest Regional Chair Kristi Gaines, PhD, IIDA, Allied ASID, accepted on IDEC's behalf.

According to Wachter, IDEC Southwest Region graduate student members will use the funds as a travel stipend to attend either the IDEC Southwest Regional Conference in Dallas this October or IDEC's Annual Conference next March in Boston. "This award will certainly give more IDEC student members access to these educational events," he added.

METROCON17 Presiding Chair John DuBard, IIDA, CHID, LEED AP, believes Sandy Chilewich and Joe Sultan, the energetic husband and wife team behind the global company Chilewich | Sultan LLC, are perfect representatives of the spirit of the award: "Their story is one of innovative thinking and obstacles interwoven with hard work and perseverance, ultimately leading to remarkable success. What could be more motivating to students than that?"

Acting as Creative Director and CEO, respectively, Sandy and Joe oversee the design, manufacturing and distribution of a wide range of products sold through various distribution channels around the world. Sandy and Joe have created a global brand recognized for exquisitely beautiful, high performance products – which include wallcovering, flooring, floormats, placemats, table runners, upholstery, and window coverings – made almost exclusively in the U.S.A. Together, they touch and influence spaces where the world dines, works, shops, heals, and lives.

During their Keynote Address, Sandy and Joe took the stage together for the first time ever to share the ups and downs of building and maintaining a successful business, as well as the real challenges of working with one's spouse. Their candid comments were refreshing, inspiring, and extremely entertaining.

This donation is just one of many in METROCON's 15-year history. Since its inception, the event has given away over $950,000 to organizations and foundations benefiting the built environment.

METROCON is the largest not-for-profit, self-produced, volunteer-driven, design specification-focused regional expo and conference in the USA. For METROCON17 five associations serving the built environment – ASID Texas Chapter, ASID Texas Gulf Coast Chapter, CSI Dallas Chapter, NEWH Dallas Chapter, and USGBC Texas Chapter – joined forces to plan and execute a more expansive event offering the best in exhibitors and continuing education to their members and beyond.

The organizing Committee enthusiastically thanks Landmark Sponsor Staples Business Advantage, Media Sponsor Modern Luxury Interiors Texas, and the 51 other Sponsors for their incredible support.
