Gaumard's Growing Family in the Limelight at AAP 2017
Super Tory & Premie HAL Bring Neonatal Simulation to Life

MIAMI, Sept. 15, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- An infant in acute respiratory distress arrives gasping for breath at the neonatal intensive care unit, where her pediatricians go into action with the critical thinking skills and confidence of a team that has rehearsed challenging cases with realistic, lifelike simulation.

This is the scenario that Gaumard Scientific Company will illustrate today through September 19 when it demonstrates Super Tory® and Premie HAL® -- the two latest additions to its family of advanced simulators and skills trainers -- in Booth 312 at the American Academy of Pediatrics 2017 National Conference & Exhibition at Chicago's McCormick Place.

Super Tory

"Super Tory® S2220, the world's most advanced neonatal simulator, is the latest high-fidelity simulator to join Gaumard's family, which has been growing steadily since Gaumard pioneered wireless, fully tetherless simulation technology in 2004," Gaumard executive vice president John Eggert says.

"Super Tory provides an even higher level of neonatal fidelity, including unprecedented anatomical and physiological accuracy, physical movement and actual mechanical ventilation to simulate high-risk/low-frequency complications, just as in actual clinical practice."

This is the first neonatal simulator to offer spontaneous breathing and mechanical ventilation support as well as motion in a mobile platform -- capabilities that allow Super Tory to simulate complex clinical conditions and respond to interventions with unparalleled realism.

Super Tory's lifelike limb and facial movements and programmable skin coloration simulate a wide range of visual cues seen in newborns. Starting with APGAR scoring, every visual assessment provides a wealth of health information.

Critical metrics such as ECG-derived respiratory monitoring, pre- and post-ductal SpO2, NIBP and capillary refill time can be evaluated in real time.  And Super Tory can be paced and defibrillated using real energy, just as in a live clinical situation. Her facial expressions, chest wall movement and programmable arm and leg movements provide valuable information for caregivers.

Super Tory's lifelike lungs feature programmable levels of compliance, can achieve normal chest rise with as little as 15 cmH2O, and can illustrate the high recoil associated with stiff lungs. For the first time, pediatricians can simulate all stages of respiratory management, including diagnosis, treatment, weaning and rehabilitation, as they would in real situations.

Super Tory is wireless and tetherless (battery powered and tablet controlled) to ensure continuity of care as she moves from the labor and delivery room to the NICU. She can be utilized in training scenarios anytime, anywhere and remains fully functional in transit due to an internal, rechargeable battery that provides up to eight hours of operation -- an unprecedented technological feat in a simulator that is just eight pounds and 21 inches.

Super Tory includes ten scenarios and an accompanying guidebook that covers both common and rare clinical cases seen throughout the continuum of care of neonates.

Premie HAL

"Our latest preterm simulator, Premie HAL® S108.100, makes respiratory skills training more true-to-life with an anatomically accurate oral cavity and airway for realistic, stabilization and resuscitation simulation," Mr. Eggert says.

This 24-week gestational age skills trainer's realistic lungs respond to respiratory support with visible chest rise and realistic chest compression and recoil to facilitate advanced neonatal intensive respiratory care, including the ability to interpret actual PV waveforms.

Premie HAL S108.100 supports standard positive pressure ventilation devices including BVM, CPA, mechanical and high frequency ventilators.

About the American Academy of Pediatrics
