Ben Floyd Wins Core Security Capture the Flag Competition at Black Hat

LAS VEGAS, Aug. 3, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Core Security congratulates Ben Floyd, Senior Security Analyst and lead penetration tester from a major utility company, for winning its inaugural Capture the Flag (CTF) cyber security competition at the Black Hat conference held in Las Vegas last week. The Core Security CTF encourages cyber security industry professionals to enhance their practical skills in a real-life environment.

"We congratulate Ben on winning, amongst a tough field of experienced, innovative pen testers," said Chris Sullivan, CISO and CTO for Core Security. "Our mission at Core is to help organizations manage security risks across the enterprise, and we believe it is important to encourage engineers to apply their knowledge in real-world situations, similar to challenges they may face in some of today's most complex environments. Kudos to all the participants for rising to this challenge."

Core Security's Capture the Flag was designed around a rich, fictional, yet realistic, healthcare organization. Filled with a complete, functioning infrastructure, including novel simulated medical devices, participants had the opportunity to engage in tactical missions involving both offensive and defensive techniques.

Floyd was able to quickly learn and advance through the tournament with speed and finesse. He won a 6 month subscription of Core Impact. "I was blown away by the functionality and usability of Core Impact. It was my first hands-on experience with the solution and it solidified what I already knew - this is a tool we need for our Pen Testing program," said Ben Floyd.
