BELLEVUE, Wash., Aug. 1, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Green Infrastructure solutions and a healthy bottom line will be at the top of the list when stormwater and water quality experts and professionals gather across Lake Washington from Seattle, in the City of Bellevue this August 27–31 for StormCon 2017.
A response to the considerable economic, social, and environmental benefits that Green Infrastructure offers, the objective of the 16th Annual Surface Water Quality Conference and Exposition aims to integrate green infrastructure into the mainstream toolkit of approaches to cost-effectively manage polluted runoff and protect water quality; mitigate localized flooding; and provide green space and other community benefits across the nation.
Innovative green infrastructure techniques to help municipalities reduce flooding and energy expenses, capture and reuse stormwater more efficiently, and protect public health will be discussed in conference courses and on display in the exhibit hall. Green vegetation roofs, rain gardens, bioswales, floating treatment wetlands, low-impact development, permeable pavements, and other green infrastructure solutions highlighted at StormCon are not only more cost-effective than pipes, sewers, and other traditional, "gray" infrastructure approaches, but also reduce the costs of treating large amounts of polluted runoff.
To facilitate the investment in green infrastructure, short-term and long-term funding needs and options, tax incentives, and credit trading programs will be addressed, particularly for areas with a high percentage of impervious surfaces and urban development. Potential policy-shaping to stimulate the wider adoption of green infrastructure strategies nationwide will also be discussed, as these policies may go a long way toward reducing the gap between infrastructure funding needs and available resources.
