Parks Associates: More than 60% of U.S. Seniors Desire Independent Living at Home with Ease and Convenience
IBM, AARP, and Parks Associates to discuss aging-in-place and independent living innovations during special session at Connected Health Summit

DALLAS, July 27, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Parks Associates today announced new digital health research showing that U.S. consumers 65 and older living in a broadband household overwhelmingly want a healthy, financially independent, convenient, and efficient retirement life. The research firm will host the fourth-annual Connected Health Summit: Engaging Consumers, August 29-31 at the Omni Hotel San Diego, where analysts and industry leaders will discuss strategies to design and sell IoT and smart home solutions that will deliver remote health monitoring solutions, independent living technologies and services, and innovative convenience care models for this aging-in-place population.

"Our greying generation is embracing aging and retirement with high expectations, and home is their preferred place to enjoy this aging journey," said Harry Wang, Senior Director of Research, Parks Associates. "Translating this expectation into affordable, smart, and healthy home living experiences requires collaborations from multiple industry sectors that include healthcare, insurance, and smart home."

Consumer research, to be published in 360 View: Empowering Healthcare Consumers, finds almost three in four seniors 65 and older rank financial independence as their most important aspect of their retirement life. Seventy percent want a healthy life with minimum impact from illness/disease, and nearly 60% desire an easy and convenient life at home that maximizes their life efficiency.

At Connected Health Summit: Engaging Consumers, Sam Adams, IBM Distinguished Engineer, Master Inventor, Technical Lead for Global Aging Initiative, IBM, and Sanjay Khurana, VP, Caregiving, AARP Service Inc., will join Wang during the fireside chat session "Consumer Aging Journey and Business Opportunities" to discuss the needs of seniors and boomers and smart home innovations that could align with their healthcare needs.
