Newsmeter Attended Global PR Summit New York 2017

NEW YORK, June 13, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Newsmeter attended Global PR Summit which was held at One World Trade Center, in New York City on 8-9 June, 2017.

The summit began with the opening remarks from Kosta Petrov, the CEO of P World and the event organizer. Following the opening, Lauren Day, Head of Global Communications Strategy & Operations of Prudential Financial Inc., gave a presentation titled "Quantum Value: Strategy At The Speed Of Life."

PR Problem: Trying to Prove The Value Instead of Providing It

Lauren Day emphasized that the PR profession has a PR problem and people spend too much time trying to prove their value instead of providing the value. During her presentation, she highlighted how communicators become strategists using the credibility curve. She also pointed out that their responsibilities have increasingly become to not 'just' cover the news, but also try to predict the news.

Experiences - Expectations = Reputation

Mary Jo Jacobi, US Presidential Advisor, Corporate Director And Strategist And Former Communications Chief of BP America was among the speakers. She asked "Can you have a good brand with bad reputation? Can you have a bad brand with good reputation?" during her speech titled "Mastering The Arts Of Apology And Forgivability: Why You Need It – How To Get It". She continued by saying that "your reputation is what people say about you when you're not in the room."

Patrick Jephson, Ex-Chief of Staff to Princess Diana, quoted Maya Angelou "people will forget what you say but remember how you make them feel." He also pointed out the significance of apologizing and advised PR people to take responsibility.

Following these presentations, there was an interactive session attended by speakers and delegates, followed by a refreshment break where Deniz Aydoslu, Head of Business Development at Newsmeter, made a short introduction of Newsmeter, pointing out how it can help PR practitioners.

Reputation Management In The Healthcare Sector

After the break, Esra Erkal Paler, Head Of Global External Communications of AstraZeneca, and Andrew Widger, Senior Director of Media Relations at Pfizer both contributed to an interactive panel discussion titled "Reputation Management In The Healthcare Sector: Lessons Learned". Esra Erkal Paler said that the most expensive drug is the one that doesn't work.

Managing Crisis Communications

Liz Young, EVP Corporate Communications, and Wade Leak, Deputy General Counsel, both from Sony Music Entertainment, gave their speech about the best-practice strategies and approaches to take control and proactively manage crisis communications on social media.

Then, Natan Edelsburg, Director of Finance at PRSA NY Chapter, spoke about the ways of using data to pitch to the right journalists and build relationships with the press.

He was followed by Donald Steel's workshop on crisis management. Until now, more than 5000 PR and communications professionals from 30 different countries have had the opportunity to attend his world-class crisis communications workshops.

The summit's diverse group of speakers and panelists provided in-depth insights, as well as actionable and practical tools of engagement models, methods and mechanisms that have worked for PR practitioners from around the world.
