StandUpPouches.net CEO leads presentation on compliant packaging at New England Cannabis Convention

CLEVELAND, May 3, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- StandUpPouches.net, the leading online supplier of flexible retail packaging, introduced their child-resistant packaging at the New England Cannabis Convention April 22 and 23 at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston.

The company's President and CEO, David Marinac, hosted a presentation and Q&A session focused on the importance of safe, legal and compliant marijuana packaging at the venue's Medical Marijuana Education & Advocacy stage.

During the presentation, titled "Packaging, labeling & storage: Best practices for safety & maximizing shelf-life," Marinac explained the first thing packaging has to do in this budding industry is protect the product. Once the correct packaging structure is selected, brands should then focus on customizing it to tell their stories.

Marinac listed six ways legal cannabis packaging can tell a story:

  1. Define core values
  2. Allow labels to evolve with your brand
  3. Craft different messages for medical vs. recreational users
  4. Don't rely on social media marketing
  5. Packaging designs can not appeal to children
  6. Remember: Your product is part of your brand

He also stressed the importance of finding a long-term packaging partner, not just another supplier. Because the cannabis industry is always growing, evolving and pivoting as new legal rules and regulations are introduced, brands must work with a knowledgeable packaging expert to ensure all packaging used for their products meet the required guidelines.

"When your regulations change, your partner will help you new labeling, graphics and so on," Marinac said.

To conclude his presentation, Marinac hosted a Q&A session where NECANN attendees could inquire about proper marijuana packaging. One audience member asked if child-resistant exit bags could be custom printed as policies change.

Marinac said brands should get their packaging universally printed, then they can add a thermal transfer label that includes updated information as regulations evolve.

He also suggested to an attendee that he try out smaller runs of digital printed prototypes as his brand tests new product flavors, varieties and/or strains. Once the products have been tested in the packaging prototypes, the right supplier will be able to create larger runs of customized, compliant packaging.

Team members from StandUpPouches.net were also onsite at a vendor booth to answer questions and hand out free samples of the company's plain stock child resistant exit bags. The packaging is available to order online at store.standuppouches.net.
