Key Trends in the Alternate Site Health Care Industry Revealed
2017 14th Annual MHA Business Summit puts spotlight on key and emerging trends

FLORHAM PARK, N.J., April 11, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Managed Health Care Associates, Inc. (MHA), a leading health care services and technology company focused on the alternate site health care provider marketplace, is pleased to share key industry trends that emerged from its 14th Annual Business Summit at The Bellagio, Las Vegas, Nevada, March 29-31, 2017. The three-day meeting attracted more than 1,400 MHA long-term care, home infusion and specialty pharmacy Members and Business Partners for engaged discussions and interactive breakouts led by an exceptional line-up of thought leaders.

During the MHA Business Summit, a number of key industry trends were identified and discussed, including:

- The alternate site health care market continues to expand and evolve as new baby boomers age into the Medicare program. In addition, new therapies and technologies are being introduced to enable more targeted care to all consumers of health care. This allows for the streamlining of care and the ability to improve the quality of care being delivered by alternate site health care providers.

- The long-term care pharmacy segment continues to attract new entrants every year, per the 2017 MHA Independent Long-Term Care Member study presented at the Business Summit. The study further revealed that long-term care pharmacies share the same top concerns: generic reimbursement, generic price inflation, and potential bundled payments. This puts added emphasis on the levers a pharmacy is in fact able to control, such as improving efficiencies, optimizing operations and ensuring accurate reimbursement. To help target those specific areas, MHA and its partner companies have developed a series of solutions and software that were included in the Business Summit.

- DIR fees, or more specifically the way DIR fees have come to be applied by PBMs, sparked discussion across the entire spectrum of alternate site health care providers. The impact of this PBM contracting strategy is becoming more visible, resulting in both regulatory and legislative actions around this practice.

- All signs point to the importance of alternate site health care providers establishing and exercising a clear voice to engage and educate local and national legislators. Approaches and resources to support providers on this key point were showcased at the MHA Business Summit, and will be discussed in further detail at the 2017 MHA Legislative Conference taking place in Washington, DC, September 27-28.

Michael J. Sicilian, MHA President, commented, "Looking at our record-breaking Member turn-out this year, it's clear that the alternate site health care industry truly embraces this unique opportunity to understand the macro trends and legislative developments impacting their business, while also spending quality time evaluating solutions, software and services that enable optimum patient care, taking cost out of the system, and business growth."

Within the coming weeks, details will be available on the 15th Annual MHA Business Summit to be held March 7-9, 2018, at Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas, Nevada.
