DECISIVE ANALYTICS Employee-Owners, Kevin Ward and Peter David, to Present at 2017 SPIE Defense + Security Conference

ARLINGTON, Va., April 6, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Next week, two DECISIVE ANALYTICS Corporation's employee-owners, Kevin Ward and Peter David, are set to give oral presentations on their papers at the 2017 SPIE Defense + Security Conference in Anaheim, CA. The conference, held April 9-13th at the Anaheim Convention Center, focuses on sensors, imaging, and optical technologies for security, law enforcement, avionics/aerospace, defense, and military applications.

Human-Machine Interaction to Disambiguate Entities in Unstructured Text and Structured Datasets, written by Kevin Ward, presents an Entity Disambiguation tool, DRADIS, which bridges the gap between human-centric and machine-centric methods to help cut down the time-consuming process of creating network graphs for intelligence analysts. The problem faced by many analysts is that the automated methods for relationship extraction and entity disambiguation typically only produce questionable results with no way for users to vet results, correct mistakes, or influence the algorithm's future results. Kevin will be presenting DRADIS's multi-source dataset extraction solution which gives analysts the ability to validate and correct models; producing a trustworthy system enabling them to better focus their time on producing high quality intelligence products.

A paper by Peter David and Timothy Hawes, Quantity and Unit Extraction for Scientific and Technical Intelligence Analysis, examines automating the process of finding and extracting relevant quantities from a wide range of Scientific and Technical (S&T) documents. Quantitative analysis of large S&T data sets is difficult because information about quantities and their units is contained in unstructured text with ad hoc conventions used to convey their meaning. Even simple tasks like searching for documents discussing radio frequencies in a band of interest is a labor intensive, error-prone process. Peter will be presenting how Natural Language Processing algorithms can address the challenges facing development of a document processing capability that extracts quantities and units from S&T data.
