SDE National Conference to Offer Comprehensive Session Line-up Dedicated to PreK through 2nd Grade Teachers

LAS VEGAS and PETERBOROUGH, N.H., April 4, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Early childhood educators from across the country are preparing to gather this summer to engage in authentic learning opportunities led by grade-specific experts and focused on improving their impact in the classroom. SDE's 2017 National Conference features a comprehensive session line-up dedicated to reaching all students in pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, first, and second grade. The event hosted by Staff Development for Educators (SDE) will be held July 10–14, 2017, in Las Vegas, NV.

"Early childhood educators face unique challenges that are very specific to the grades they teach. One-size-fits-all instruction does not work, especially in the early years. The challenges a PreK teacher faces are very different from those a kindergarten teacher must deal with," says Kymra Kurinskas, SDE program developer. "This summer, we are thrilled to offer early childhood teachers meaningful and relevant content tailored to their grades."

Educators are invited to register for one of four grade-specific and topic-focused strands:

I Teach PreK! speaks directly to the needs of pre-kindergarten educators through 75+ sessions covering readiness, early literacy, number sense, behavior/classroom management, STEM, fine/gross motor skills, and more. Attendees will learn from nationally acclaimed presenters and pre-kindergarten experts Sandi Reyes, Lisa Murphy, Clarissa Willis, Ph.D., Cheryl Smith Turner, Ed.S., and Kim Hughes with a special appearance by Dr. Jean Feldman.

Rich with how-to's, I Teach K! presents 150+ sessions on the topics kindergarten teachers request most. These include behavior management, technology, guided reading, writing, math, STEM, and more. Featured presenters are Kim Adsit, Pete Harry, Shari Sloane, LeAnna Wolkis Goldstein, and Adam Peterson with a special appearance by Dr. Jean Feldman.

I Teach 1st! offers 100+ sessions aimed at helping first grade teachers meet classroom demands in such areas as guided math, time/behavior management, small-group instruction, poverty and intervention, and collaborative learning. Attendees will learn from some of the best minds in first-grade education, including Donna Whyte, Michael Ford, Ph.D., Reagan Turnstall, Cara Carroll, and Katie Knight.

At I Teach 2nd!, second grade teachers from across the nation will discover through 75+ sessions best teaching practices related to time management, writing fluency, reading comprehension, real-world math, vocabulary, and more. The nationally acclaimed roster includes Mark Weakland, Donna McKenzie, Cheryl Dick, Kayla Delzer, and Hope King.

Those who participate in this year's I Teach! strands may enhance their learning by adding a full-day, post-conference session dedicated to improving the start of the school year in their specific grade. In each focused and strategy-driven session, veteran teachers will offer tested strategies to address teaching procedures, rituals and routines, classroom environment and expectations, core content areas, whole- and small-group instruction, assessment, and student-facing activities. The First 30 Days K! will be led by Kathy Griffin, the First 30 Days 1St! by Cara Carroll, and the First 30 Days 2nd! by Cheryl Dick.
