New January Conferences Help Texas First, Second & Third Grade Teachers Meet the TEKS

SAN MARCOS, Texas and PETERBOROUGH, N.H., Jan. 23, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The TEKS are changing the face of classroom instruction for Texas teachers across the state. They need knowledge, the right strategies, and confidence to bring the standards to life. Two upcoming conferences hosted by Staff Development for Educators (SDE) will help teachers meet the challenges head-on. The co-located 2017 Conference for Texas First Grade Teachers and the 2017 Conference for Texas Second & Third Grade Teachers will be offered January 30–31, 2017 in San Marcos, TX.

"The standards in Texas have changed and teachers are struggling with core content areas, like writing, guided reading, and guided math. They're also figuring out how to motivate students, design interventions for struggling students, and more. At these conferences, teachers will dig deep into the TEKS to give teachers what they need," SDE program developer Kymra Kurinskas says.

The 2017 Texas Conference for First Grade Teachers will feature 32 relevant sessions covering the areas first grade teachers want and need to know about. Teachers will learn essential strategies for fitting it all in and managing classroom time, STEM and math concepts for meeting the TEKS, fresh ideas to increase engagement and motivation, powerful intervention strategies across the content areas to help reach struggling students, and differentiated instruction techniques to boost success for all students.

"We're excited to bring back early childhood experts Jen Jones and Christina DeCarbo to Texas teachers. They are first grade bloggers who are uniquely tuned in to what teachers are thinking and what they need to succeed," Kurinskas says. Also featured will be exciting classroom innovators and authors Pat Pavelka, Sandi Reyes, Donna Whyte, and Lori Elliott, Ed.D.

The 2017 Conference for Texas Second & Third Grade Teachers will deliver 32 sessions focusing on fitting it all in, writing, technology, differentiation, and motivation and engagement. Teachers will return to their classrooms with new strategies for meeting the TEKS in math, literacy, and science and proven ways to integrate technology into their day. They'll also get tips for identifying struggling students and designing appropriate interventions, making STAAR prep fun, and engaging their children with hands-on strategies.

Delivering the innovative content will be a team of eight second and third grade experts including digital innovator Kayla Delzer, blogger Amanda Nickerson, and author Donna Whyte.
