Cyber Security Expert, Seth Misenar, to Present at SANS San Jose Security Training Event
Will Offer Valuable Insight to Help Organizations Improve Data Breach Detection Time

BETHESDA, Md., Jan. 9, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- SANS Institute, the global leader in information security training, today announced cyber security expert, Seth Misenar will present at SANS San Jose 2017 taking place March 6-11. Misenar is among the few security experts worldwide to have achieved the GIAC GSE credential. During his evening talk, Actionable Detects: Blue Team Cyber Defense Tactics, Misenar will provide tactics, techniques and procedures to help organizations build their in-house defensive cyber operations capabilities.

According to Misenar, "Organizations relying on 3rd parties to detect breaches can go almost a full year before finding out they have been compromised. Meanwhile, the longer an attacker goes unnoticed on a victim's network, the greater the damage. When detecting a breach in-house, on average a compromise will be discovered within a month of the initial occurrence. Considering the price of response and recovery with breach duration, relying on 3rd parties can prove costly."

SANS San Jose will feature six hands-on, intensive cyber security training courses; five of which are aligned with GIAC certifications. Many of the courses will help prepare students for DoDD 8140. In addition to his evening talk, Seth Misenar will teach the very popular course for which he is the lead author of, SEC511: Continuous Monitoring and Security Operations. Other courses offered at SANS San Jose include SEC501: Advanced Security Essentials - Enterprise Defender and SEC642: Advanced Web App Penetration Testing, Ethical Hacking, and Exploitation Techniques.
