VIATechnik COO Anton Dy Buncio spoke at VR Days Europe in a panel about the role of VR and AR in the industries of construction and design. Dy Buncio spoke alongside Royal BAM and the Virtual Dutchmen, and the panel was moderated by Deloitte's Ilse Habraken.

Key themes focused on how VR is being used on construction sites and what the outlook is for professionals in the industry. All experts agreed that VR will be utilized heavily by the construction industry because it helps teams collaborate and reduce risks. Dy Buncio of VIATechnik emphasized safety being an essential component of VR and AR, and how this technology should work towards making jobsites safer, not just more productive.

Other speakers included Phil Tippett from the special effects team for Star Wars, who spoke about his work with Wanda, China's largest commercial property company and the world's largest cinema chain operator, and how he created a Chinese-themed ride for them. Among other elements, Tippett was responsible for the Star Wars chess set, which he recreated for Episode 7.

Overall, the conference was unique and unprecedented in that it featured many indie experiences and small companies making their mark in the world of VR. Zillah Watson of the BBC noted that this event had a much more independent and less corporate vibe than other recent VR conferences. For example, a company called Olorama has brought scents to VR, pushing scents into the space where an alternate realty is experienced.  Clearly, the potential of VR has never felt more alive or promising, which is now energizing leaders and influencers from a wide range of industries.
