Teacher favorite Kim Adsit will lead the two-day hands-on seminar hosted by Staff Development for Educators (SDE). She is an award-wining kindergarten teacher, author, and blogger with more than 30 years of classroom experience. She will motivate educators to put fun back into instruction, tap into their children's curiosity, and plant the seeds for lifelong learning.
"Trying to fit everything in is not easy. After all, there are only so many hours in a day. But teachers who attend this reassuring seminar will see it is doable. It all boils down to learning how to teach smarter, not harder. And Kim is just the person to show teachers how," SDE program developer Kymra Kurinskas says.
Attendees will learn how to design rigorous instruction that is mindful of students' developmental milestone, implement formative assessments that fit in their day, and plan lessons quickly. They'll explore meaningful learning activities for building foundational skills and engaging reading, writing, and math centers and activities.
Kim starts the first day by introducing an 8-step lesson plan for developing confident readers. Teachers will explore Writer's Workshop, anchor charts, Reader's Workshop, and literacy activities. Day two attendees will focus on managing assessment and data-driven instruction and developing confident mathematicians. Topics include grouping, formative assessment, room arrangement, centers, number sense, operations, and place value.
