WASHINGTON, Oct. 26, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- More than 200 oncology care providers, payers, patient advocates, and industry leaders came together this week to discuss payment reform at the Community Oncology Alliance's (COA) Payer Exchange Summit V. This marks COA's fifth payment reform summit and represents community oncology's continued leadership in developing and advancing payment reform initiatives.
Held outside of Washington, DC from October 24-25, 2016, the COA Payer Exchange Summit V featured an invitation-only group of community oncology physicians, practice administrators, and pharmacists; public and private payers; employers and regional health improvement collaboratives; as well as industry stakeholders. Continuing a tradition unique to the Payer Exchange Summit, attendees were required to be a pair of local provider-employer partners working together on payment reform in order to attend.
The first day of the Payer Exchange Summit V select attendees featured a pre-meeting of practices participating in the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Innovation Center's (CMMI) oncology payment and delivery reform initiative, the Oncology Care Model (OCM). The second day of the Summit hosted in-depth panels of stakeholders discussing issues such as the payer and provider perspectives on implementing the OCM, the complexities of cancer care in the workplace, and what is being called "OCM 2.0" a possible universal model of oncology payment reform building on the OCM.
The Payer Exchange Summit V continues COA's commitment to fostering dialogue and action around community cancer care payment reform. The conversation will continue at Payer Exchange Summit VI taking place during the annual Community Oncology Conference April 27-28, 2017, also outside of Washington, DC. COA will also continue to help oncology practices succeed in payment reform through initiatives such as the OCM Support Network and the Oncology Medical Home.
