Meeting Rigorous Standards Among Top Topics at PreK-Kindergarten Conference

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. and PETERBOROUGH, N.H., Oct. 26, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- As Minnesota moves forward in the implementation of more rigorous academic standards, teachers face increasing demands to assess and improve their instructional approaches. The 2016 Conference for Minnesota Pre-Kindergarten & Kindergarten Teachers will provide educators with practical, easy tips for increasing rigor and successfully teaching everything and everyone they need to teach. The conference, hosted by Staff Development for Educators (SDE), will be held December 1-2, 2016, in Bloomington, MN.

Delivered in a fun and interactive way, the 32 sessions will cover the top issues pre-kindergarten and kindergarten teachers care about, including classroom management, challenging behavior, technology, developmentally appropriate content, and English language learners. No matter how long they've taught in the classroom, participants will get up-to-date on what's new and what's changing as they explore new ways to perform their complex, ever-changing, and critically important jobs.

Over two days, teachers will gain strategies for providing developmentally appropriate learning opportunities, incorporating the standards into their instruction, and promoting social, emotional physical, and cognitive development. They'll learn smart ways to teach phonics and phonic awareness, help struggling learners, differentiate literacy centers, make the most of guided math and center time, and weave iPads® and QR codes into the classroom.

"No matter how much these early educators love their jobs, there are times when they all need extra motivation. Just when you're feeling worn out, frustrated, and ready to throw in the towel, this conference will provide the boost needed to re-energize and refuel. For these teachers, it will undoubtedly be the most motivating days of the year," SDE program developer Beth Nee says.

The program will be delivered by a team of nationally respected and carefully selected pre-kindergarten and kindergartens experts. The 2016 speakers include Christine Messer, president of the Minnesota Kindergarten Association; popular bloggers Elizabeth Hall, Melissa Leach, and Greg Smedley;  and authors Drew Giles and Shannon Samulski. Two Minnesota state educators will round out the roster.

"Meeting other pre-kindergarten and kindergarten teachers who face the same challenges is re-assuring. More importantly, hearing and discussing how they solve these challenges is stimulating. If a teacher returns to the workplace with but one new idea, strategy, or solution, their time will be well spent," Nee says.
