SANS to Host Portland, Oregon Information Security Training Event
Will Tackle Today's Most Complex IT Security Challenges including Continuous Monitoring

BETHESDA, Md., June 16, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- SANS Institute, the global leader in information security training, today announced the agenda for SANS Portland 2016 taking place in Oregon, August 8 - 13. In addition to hands-on immersion style security training courses, the event will feature a number of bonus evening discussions. Included among the evening discussions, SANS Instructor and cyber security expert, Bryan Simon will discuss continuous monitoring, why it is needed and the ramifications when not done correctly.

According to Simon, "There are numerous examples of high profile compromises disclosed in the public domain. While the end goal of the adversary may be different in the various breaches, there is one consistent theme: the need for timely detection and timely response. Prevention is required, but is not the end game itself. Your security will be compromised. As such, the new definition for prevention is prevention of adversarial success. Continuous monitoring is part of the framework that puts us on the road to timely detection and timely response... and therefore ultimately to better prevention through denying the adversary their end goal."

In addition to his bonus discussion, Simon will teach SEC401: Security Essentials Bootcamp Style camp. This technical course is ideal for IT professionals that are new to security and those that want to brush up on their information security skills. Attendees will learn effective steps to prevent attacks and detect adversaries with actionable techniques that they can directly apply when they return to work. For attendees primarily interested in a leadership-oriented but less technical learning experience, SANS will offer the MGT512: SANS Security Leadership Essentials For Managers with Knowledge Compression™ course.
