"gesture.ai" Launches at Disrupt NY, Pioneering the Future of Gesture Recognition

NEW YORK, May 11, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- In the midst of Disrupt NY by TechCrunch, the creators of successfully funded Kickstarter project, MATRIX (www.kickstarter.com/projects/2061039712/matrix-the-internet-of-things-for-everyonetm), today announced the launch of gesture.ai, a robust and easy to use gesture recognition technology and Software Development Kit created using computer vision. A boon for all developers short on time and resources, gesture.ai was created to make gesture recognition accessible for developers of all skill levels.

"What Wit.ai [purchased by Facebook] did for voice recognition, is doing for gesture recognition," says Rodolfo Saccoman, CEO of AdMobilize, parent company that launched MATRIX. "You won't need expensive stereo cameras like Kinect to reap the benefits of gesture.ai; any regular 2D camera and a PC is all you need to create highly scalable interactive experiences."

Building gesture recognition algorithms requires months of research, testing, and software development. With gesture.ai, developers can bypass the hardships of creating such a tool and incorporate gesture recognition using any of the initial supported languages (Node.js, C++, and soon, Python).

"Humans do not naturally interact with a keyboard, or a mouse. We communicate through speaking and body language. By putting gesture.ai in every developer's arsenal, we are a step closer to enabling touchless technology," says Willem Prins, MATRIX Computer Vision Engineer and gesture.ai project lead.

"Imagine waking up and turning the shower on from your bed with a thumbs up. How much time could you save by shutting all of your lights and home appliances off with a simple gesture as you walk out of your apartment?" says Diego Leite, a MATRIX Kickstarter backer eager to put the technology to work.

gesture.ai opens the gate for global developers of all skill levels to leverage gesture recognition as part of their mobile or Internet of Things applications. The ability to trigger actions with gestures is immensely useful in the arenas of gaming, automation, disability, Human Computer Interaction, and beyond.

The purpose of the MATRIX ecosystem is to drastically increase universal access to Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Things. gesture.ai plays perfectly into that endeavor by allowing a natural user interface for both developers and consumers.
