Special Operations JTACs use FAC-US enabled MTS & APS systems featured in Airman Magazine

SAYLOR CREEK RANGE, Idaho, May 4, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Black Diamond Advanced Technology, LLC (BDATech's) APEx Predator System (APS), Modular Tactical System (MTS), and Forward Air Control-Utility Suite (FAC-US) were featured in the April 2016 issue of Airman Magazine article titled "The Perfect Storm." Special Operations Joint Terminal Attack Controllers (JTACs) conducted Digitally Aided Close Air Support (DACAS) with FAC-US enabled MTS & APS systems. These systems enabled the Special Operators to send digital VMF 9-Lines to the F-35A, which then engaged moving targets with inert GBU-31s. The Special Operators also took advantage of the lightweight dismounted systems to traverse difficult terrain to the Observation Point (OP) and quickly designate targets with FAC-US in order to "Shorten the Kill Chain."

The APS is a ruggedized wearable system that provides tactical communications for commercial tablets and computers to enable C4ISR, DACAS operations, SUAS control, and much more for the dismounted operator. BDATech customers are using APS globally in various theatres of conflict. Combat-proven APS has been demonstrated as an effective enabler of precision targeting and other mission sets. APS is comprised of multiple elements, each offered a-la-carte to meet the needs of each customer's unique requirements.

The MTS is a TRL-9 ultra-ruggedized wearable computer that enables C4ISR, DACAS operations, SUAS control, and much more for the dismounted operator. The MTS has a track record of high user adoption rates across a broad range of mission requirements. The MTS is fielded in every U.S. service branch, and well as with NATO and U.S. allies for a variety of applications.

FAC-US is DACAS software that is VMF, SADL, CoT, and Link-16 capable. FAC-US was designed from the ground up by JTACs for JTACs to assist both conventional and Special Operators conducting Close Air Support (CAS) and other mission sets with little or no training on the software. BDATech's engineering team utilized a two-pronged approach in which they observed and analyzed end-user (JTAC) behavior, as well as applied human factors design principles to create a user-friendly, intuitive system tailored to the end user. This approach ensured that FAC-US would make DACAS simple enough to be used in combat. FAC-US integrates a variety of Video Downlink (VDL) devices, LASER Range Finders (LRFs), Designators (LTDs), and Radios to ensure that everything a JTAC needs to be successful is readily available.
