Presentations at the meeting identified a number of key industry trends that are poised to transform and reshape the market:

  • New payer models are emerging within the patient population management space.  With the evolution of these models the role of the pharmacy will become an even more critical cornerstone of managing within the value based reimbursement environment. The consistent and successful utilization of Medication Therapy Management (MTM) has emerged as a key CMS focus for both Medicare Advantage (MA) and stand-alone Prescription Drug Plans (PDPs), specifically within the skilled nursing facility site of care. Medicare Advantage plans, historically the purview of traditional health insurers, are now being viewed by provider-based organizations as a key strategic component to be successful in the value based reimbursement models and their respective ownership of these MA plans is growing.
  • The FDA is working through a backlog of generic drug filings and the expectation is that if these filings are approved, this will create additional competition within the generic market and rationalize pricing.
  • A robust and growing appetite for fresh data, thought leader input, discussions and networking is making its mark across the alternate site health care market, as evidenced by the record attendance, spirited discussions and high energy networking that characterized the 2016 MHA Business Summit.

Michael J. Sicilian, MHA President, commented, "The MHA Business Summit is a Member meeting where we bring together key Business Partners and industry thought leaders. This three-day event provides our Members and Business Partners the opportunity to spend quality time evaluating products and services that enable their respective businesses to grow. The meeting also sets the stage for great exchanges of information from leaders within the health care and political landscapes."

Within the coming weeks, details will be available on the 14th Annual MHA Business Summit to be held March 29 - 31, 2017, at The Bellagio, Las Vegas, Nevada.
