"As a cloud-first organization, we recognize the value that cloud native technologies at scale can provide," said Kapil Thangavelu, Senior Director, Software Engineering, at Capital One. "We joined CNCF to share learnings with the community and drive greater adoption of cloud native technologies across industries."
Capital One takes a cloud-first approach to software development and has embraced open source, actively using, as well as contributing to open source projects including Hygieia, a comprehensive DevOps dashboard released in 2015. Capital One is on a journey to learn and grow as a technology company, in addition to being a well-known financial services firm. "Capital One is a model organization for those operating in heavily-regulated industries while also using, contributing to, and sponsoring open source projects," said Dan Kohn, executive director of the Cloud Native Computing Foundation. "We're thrilled the company has decided to increase its participation as a gold end user member, and look forward to continuing our collective work to foster the adoption of cloud native technologies in banking and other risk-averse industries."
As an active user of CNCF projects, Capital One adopted Kubernetes to build a provisioning platform for its applications deployed on AWS that use streaming, big data decisioning, and machine learning. The company has also incorporated Prometheus, Fluentd, gRPC, CNI, and Envoy into its infrastructure. In addition to its CNCF participation, Capital One is an active member of The Linux Foundation, Apache Foundation, and TODO Group. The company also sponsors open source projects built by its engineers, including Hygieia and Cloud Custodian.
