Virtek Goes Local with Iris™ Spatial Positioning System
Assembly Solution Localized, from Installation Reference to Interface; on Display at JEC World 2016 Composites Show

WATERLOO, Ontario, March 3, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Virtek Vision International announces the availability of the Iris Spatial Positioning System (SPS) with localized language support, making it even easier to implement the solution throughout the manufacturing process. The Iris SPS will be among a range of products showcased at the JEC World 2016 Composites Show, March 8-10 in Paris.

Iris SPS combines innovative photogrammetry technology with laser projection for assembly processes. Iris SPS eliminates costly rework caused by errors during assembly and reduces the cost of design changes, so assemblers can always be working from the most current CAD files while using Iris. Engineering changes are passed to the shop floor in minutes, so assembly can continue without delays and additional expense. Iris SPS allows assemblers to build parts using virtual tooling that is not constrained by the physical limits of templates and measuring tools – locating objects in 3D space and locking onto CAD-specified assembly positions without the need for costly tooling or optical targets. The system is compact, easy to use, accurate and intuitive, for improved productivity, quality and safety on the shop floor.

All functions within Iris SPS operators will be localized, including the application interface, Operator Help Guide, Installation Guide and Laser Safety Guide. Initially localizations will include English, French and Italian, with additional support in Japanese, German, Chinese and Spanish to follow. Additional languages and specific workplace localization will also be supported.

Among the additional products being displayed at the show are:

  • New Virtek® Projection Data Creator (PDC) makes it quicker and easier to create projections using the latest CAD formats, saving time and costs in deploying product design changes.
  • Virtek's LaserEdge® system is a three dimensional laser templating and positioning system that projects a laser template onto molds to guide operators through the ply layup process, minimizing errors and improving productivity by as much as 50 percent.
  • Gerber Technology will showcase solutions for computer-controlled cutting: GERBERcutters® are the optimal solution for single and low-ply cutting of challenging composite materials.

Virtek will be in Hall 5A, booth #M77 at the JEC World 2016 Composites Show, March 8-10 in the Paris Nord Villepinte Exhibition Center. In the Live Demo Area Virtek will be demonstrating its laser projection system for assembly, which features component placement and verification of parts for accuracy and positioning.
